Director of Photography
The Director of Photography, DoP or DP, is the chief of the camera and lighting crew of the film. The DoP makes decisions on lighting and framing of scenes in conjunction with the film's director. Typically, the Director tells the DoP how he or she wants a shot to look, and the DoP chooses the correct aperture, filter, and lighting to achieve the desired effect as per the Director's requirements.
Okay, so am I the only one that had NO idea that the "director" and the DoP were two different folks. Seems to me that the world of Film and TV are much more complicated than I knew. I just always assumed someone had this great idea, wrote a script (we'll get into that in more detail later) and then some big shot with a camera comes down and tells people how to get the story on the screen. I think that it actually is like a normal person with a camera taking family photos. The photographer knows that the family want to be centered and in focus, but having first talked over the requirements with the family (director) he then knows how to create the look the family desires. Look, I realize that this oversimplifies everything.. lol but this is my attempt to put into layman's terms what the artists go through in each of their particular areas. I will discuss not only Film, but TV, Visual art and Literature. I hope that my blog will help others to have a grasp of how artists work and allow us to peek into their world.

Questions and Answers
Good Morning Friends !
Do you ever hear a term and say Wow! not sure what that is? Well I do quite frequently, and when that happens I hit Google.. lol. So, I'm going to see if I can't define some terms from the Film World that maybe you have wondered about. In addition, I'm going to try and get some of my writer friends to post some Q&A's that will educate some of my friends as to how a book is actually made (I assure you, it is very much a job and hard work). Well dear Friends, I'm off to work and will be back to assimilate umm.. educate us this afternoon.
hugs to all,
Leigh

New Journey
I have been looking for a fullfilling "thing" to do for the past 8 years. This has taken me from Surgical Technology to Teaching to Nursing all while working in an industry that sucks the life right out of you. Never feeling as if what I do touches anyone and wondering if my life will have anymore meaning than it does right now. I don't fit in here at least not with the people my age in my portion of Savannah. I am a card carrying geek. That's right folks, I'm different, smart ( too smart for my own good, usually) and stay stuck in my head most of the time. I can fake social skills well, but usually prefer not to be around people as most of them would be quite scared of me lol. Not a drinker or a smoker, and don't like bars where he-men are looking at and for skinny chics with their asses hanging out. So, I say all of this to say that I'm going to try to step out on a ledge and do what I've talked about and dreamed about for most of my life. I'm going to get into films, I've applied and been accepted to the Academy of Art and will be studying film and screen writing. (Richard and Chris) this is where I finally take the plunge and learn how to make the movie we have talked about every time we've been around each other. As I take this path that hopefully will lead me where I want to go, I'll blog about it here. Maybe, just Maybe it will make others who feel out of step get the courage to dance right out of line and into their own selves.
